met ball best dressed/red carpet re-cap

so, the fashion industry always goes a bit wonkish on met ball night and it can sometimes take years for me to find the inner beauty of the most cutting edge looks. this year as no exception. i think i was expecting some 1940s lady-like splendor, given the theme. it’s clear that, in so hoping, i totally forgot that this is where fashion starts . . . and anything this freshly pressed has a stronger flavor than the canned, off-the-shelf version we experience back home. my worst dressed list is a mile long. (why? why?) but there were some stunners. here are my votes for best dressed:

Georgia May Jagger in Thierry Mugler

georgia may jagger in thierry mugler. best dressed, hands down.

alexa chung in nina ricci. a definite favorite for all its lady-like splendor while being exceptionally modern

emma stone in thakoon

rihanna in stella mccartney

suki waterhouse in burberry. i love this because it, too, is modern – yet it strikes me this dress could have also been in a lead-out in 1959

blake lively in gucci premiere with ryan reynolds

giovanna battaglia in dolce & gabbana

reese witherspoon in stella mccartney. i tried hard to find a picture of her without this smirk on her face. apparently, she wore it all night.

olivia munn in diane von furstenberg. because i love yellow on a brunette.

gisele in balenciaga

kate bosworth in stella mccartney. agreed she is too thin but she does look amazing. perfect blush tone for her skin.
