for those of you, like me, who are not blessed in the leg department, the short has long been a stumper. as the years progress, the less comfortable i have become with even the concept of myself in shorts. and yet, it is soooo hot this time of year that wearing jeans on a saturday to run errands when it is 96 degrees outside is insufferable. so, inevitably, each year I find myself throwing on the same, plain front, jcrew chino shorts and convincing myself that they don’t look that bad and, anyway, it’s just running errands on saturday.
that was until this year when I had a frank discussion with myself that went something like this: me: “you know you are going to end up wearing those jcrew shorts all summer again this year.” me: “what? i look awful in shorts. no way am i wasting money on something i will never wear.” me: “you really, seriously, need to stop deluding yourself because you DO wear shorts all summer and they are not even flattering.” me: “wait, what?” me: “word. also, it is, like, 7 million degrees outside all summer long. you just can’t keep wearing your jeans. why don’t you grow up, face the facts, and find some flattering shorts this year?” me: “okay but, like, where?” . . .
so, this is actually a great year to be getting in the game. . . shorts have come a long way thanks to clare waight keller at chloé who has made loose bermuda shorts hip. AND they can be gorgeously flattering. the extra fabric makes the short stand away from the leg and gives the illusion of a thinner thigh. below, I have hooked you up with some super fab options that you will look great in and feel great wearing . .
i think it is important to note that if you are going to bust out a bermuda short, you really need a longish top. this tank by t by wang or this one by rag & bone would be a perfect complement to the shorts below for a super chic and casual summer saturday. please, please, please do not tuck your top into the bermuda! seriously. (and don’t make me explain why . . .) also, it is important to wear the right shoe. for me, once again, that means my sam edelman cork wedges for comfort and the leg lengthening effect.
