my adidas . . .

my adidas and me, close as can be
we make a mean team, my adidas and me
we get around together, rhyme forever
and we won’t be mad when worn in bad weather

my adidas..
my adidas..
my adidas . . .

run dmc, my adidas, 1986

not sure it landed on me how super chic adidas are way back in ’86 when i was rockin’ out to run dmc’s “my adidas” and “tricky.” but, hey!  guess what?  there’s another really masculine shoe that you might think is ugly that i am here to tell you is stylish and cool.  cue the eye roll.  did you just peace out on me?

hold up. hold up.  i told you before that we have seen the dawn of the age of the practical shoe.  it probably won’t last long, but if i am on board, then you know it is legit.  because until a year ago, these gams had not met a flat shoe in well over a decade.

so, let’s get a couple of things straight.  this shoe does not go with everything.  but it goes with more than you think.  you can see from the styling below (from this month’s vogue italia and the april and july issues of vogue), you can make this work with sportswear. (and i’ll add that it would look totally hot to wear them with some super slim sweatpants and a blue oxford for casual saturday trip to starbucks or for the morning school run).

and the way to think of the all-white-stan-smith-adidas-ish shoe is that it is a cool shoe to wear when comfort is key.  like when you know you are going shopping for the entire day and need to still look chic (nyc?).  like when you are going to furniture or clothing market for the day.  like when you have an all day set up on some party or project and you need to look cool but you simply cannot wear an uncomfortable shoe.

you can customize your stan smiths here or both michael kors and saint laurent have uber chic options for you.

peace out,
cg

april-2014-vogue-adidas-daria

vogue, april 2014. that’s my girl daria. can we all agree that this is a rock star look?

april-2014-vogue-adidas-daria

vogue, april 2014. the narrow-leg, cropped pant may very well be the best option for the average gal looking to hook into the adidas scene. this is definitely where i will start.

april-2014-vogue-adidas-daria

vogue, april 2014. i think the wide-leg pant + adidas is doable with a longish sweater. caution. you could slide into sloppy.

july-2014-vogue-adidas-daria

vogue, july 2014. substitute a blue oxford for this céline top and throw on a camel coat for a killer “i do not even have to try to be cool it just happens” morning school run look.

july-2014-vogue-adidas-daria

vogue, july 2014. i would never seriously consider this outfit (nor would anyone) but i think the point is that the adidas sneaker bridges the gap between super casual and formal. use it to tone down a hard edge.

vogue-italia-september-2014

the beauty of this and the remaining photos, from a spread in this month’s vogue italia, speak for themselves. how to look sophisticated and stylish and cool and down-to-earth. i’m in! i do think that i will have to go ahead and tie my shoe laces, however un-cool that may be . . .

Those cross strap sandal things are just not me. but i could be interested jn these. I used to have a pair of keds in a style like this many moons ago and I had THE hardest time parting with them. Now I wish i didn’t let go! I kind of hate the ballet slipper, so this is a cool alternative for a casual flat. I usually wear a faux croc loafer. What is your take on those slip-on vans-type kicks??? Sorry, don’t know the exact style name!

we love the vans but this may be their last season. given the choice between the two, we say go adidas. but you won’t go wrong with the vans-ish look – it is solid!
