For this issue of Fab Design Friday, I want to take you back. Back to Boston’s very ’80s ballad to Amanda, back a couple of years to the Roberta Roller Rabbit fad, and to a back issue of Elle Decor.
It probably has not been four years since we all got a little swept away with Roberta Freymann’s Roberta Roller Rabbit trunk shows full of crazy kaftans and kurtas for cover-ups – until we all realized that while the fabrics were gorgeous, the traditional cut of the tops and cover-ups was perhaps less than flattering. And, since then, outside of buying pjs for my kids from the website once a year, Roberta Freeman was pretty much off my radar.
Last month when I was in East Hampton, I tucked in the Robert Freymann store there to make my annual pj purchase for my kids and literally stopped dead in my tracks. . . There was a home store and it was amazeballs! Whoa. There in front of me were all the same fabrics from the kurtas and kaftans, but now fashioned into mind-blowingly beautiful textiles and soft furnishings for the home.
I only had eyes, though, for one print . . . Amanda. And, when I saw the beautiful Amanda coverlet folded there in front of me and a ran my hand over the top to feel the super-soft organic cotton, I immediately called to mind the Elle Decor issue a couple years ago (November 2013) featuring Alex Papachristidis’s New York City apartment.
All of the rooms in Papachristidis’s apartment are crazy gorgeous, to be sure. His bedroom, though. . . it’s just amazing. Over the top and amazing. And the reason it’s amazing (outside of the museum quality antiques and Papachristidis’s keen eye for pattern and color), really, is the Roberta Freymann Amanda Coverlet on the bed. I remember seeing the Amanda coverlet back in 2013 and it was love at first sight. And, I thought to myself, “How could I have forgotten Amanda?” And, then I starting humming, and then singing to myself . . .
I’m gonna take you by surprise and make you realize,
Amanda . . .
I’m gonna tell you right away, I can’t wait another day,
Amanda . . .
I’m gonna say it like a man and make you understand
Amanda . . . .
So, Roberta Freeman does Amanda in a million different ways, so you can have her just where you want her – on the table, on the bed, as a lampshade, as a notebook. You name it. I can’t imagine you could need anything more than a simple white plate and raffia placemat with the Amanda napkins to set the most amazing table. And, just like Alex, I can’t imagine a prettier room than one with Amanda stretched across the bed.
Below, I hooked you up with a picture of Papachristidis’s bedroom from the 2013 Elle Decor spread. (Read the full story here). And, because my mind is literally on fire with possibilities and ideas after studying Papachristidis’s room, I put together a mood board for one smoking hot room. OMG, I am dying to put together a room with Amanda! You can find Roberta Freymann Amanda coverlet here, the sheets here and here, the napkins here, and the journal here.
