Tonight Alabama and LSU meet in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It is a big game for both teams as depending on how the cards fall the game could have college football playoff implications. See here. I love college football and after my love for Vanderbilt, Alabama is my next team so the Thompsons will be yelling Roll Tide in Tuscaloosa tonight.
Tonight is going to be a little bit different. You see, there is a young man that has impacted our community in ways that this little post cannot do justice. Sid Ortis, a 16 year old living not too far from me died a week ago today after fighting a courageous 14 month battle against cancer. His courage and dignity are traits I hope when I grow up I will have one day. The thing is Sid is a LSU fan but that didn’t stop a city of die hard Alabama and Auburn fans from supporting him and his family. You see that is the kind of person he was. He and his family opened up their hearts to us and in doing so showed me and thousands of others what real faith looks like. You can read more about Sid and his impact on those near and far here, here, and here. Also ESPN will be doing a special on Sid and his relationship with LSU Coach Les Miles this morning during Game Day.
So when Alabama takes the field Saturday night there will be tremendous applause but I suspect that the cheers for the LSU Tigers and Coach Miles will be just as loud because we know Sid will be watching and we want to make him proud.
