Gift Guide | For the Guys

During this month of whirlwind purchases, I am sometimes guilty of getting all wrapped up in my extended small-gift Christmas list, including teachers, neighbors, friends and children’s friends that I end up neglecting those most important to me.  This has certainly been true from time to time of my sweet husband.  And, that is just SO not fair.  He works hard to provide for us and deserves a thoughtful and nice gift under the tree.  Feel me?  So, it’s time to up the Daddy Gift Giving Game.  Below is a collection of gifts guaranteed to say “I love you” and to bring a smile to your numero uno. . .

Ho, ho, ho!

Sonos Play:5, $499

The ultimate smart speaker for streaming music.  This baby will change your life.  Miles and miles of internal wires and cords and the accompanying several thousand dollar installation and maintenance racket all just went the way of the Dodo bird.  Yep.  Now your house or patio or screened-in porch can have that wired-for-sound feel with strategic placement of a couple of these smart speakers.  You can stream music from your iTunes account or Pandora or any other streaming service you subscribe to all from the palm of your hand.  Boom.

Barbour Heritage Liddesdale Quilted Jacket, $168

The perfect jacket for your guy.  This goes as easily over his suit as it does with jeans and boots for a weekend in the country.  It’s lightweight but warm, so it works well on days when he just needs a light jacket as well as days when it’s bitter cold.  It’s waterproof, so it solves your guy’s winter raincoat dilemma, too.  You (and he) can thank me later for this tip.

Apple Watch Sport 42mm Space Gray Aluminum Case with Black Sport Band, $439.99

Probably the best gift my husband has ever been given.  It helps out when you are driving and in meetings when you don’t need to be checking out your phone but need to keep in the know — your texts pop up on the screen and you get notice of an incoming call.  Plus you can easily track your exercise, etc.  This graphite-ish case and black sport band are inconspicuous and a good entry into the product.

Stanley 64oz Growler, $50

Rising to the call for cold, fresh beer, this vacuum growler lets your guy transport his favorite beer in functional and iconic style.  Perfect for game day.  And considering there are so many local breweries to tap and, with even Wholefoods getting in on the game with a Growler Station, this is a can’t-lose gift.

Sid Mashburn Playboy Chukka Boot, $345

The perfect everywhere winter boot for your guy.  This is the best fall boot for guys that I have seen.  The reason:  it runs the spectrum from dressy to casual, but always looks cool.  It has a hint of polish but it still reads super casual when worn with jeans.  And, I have seen Sid Masburn sporting these in navy with a suit and he looked amaze-balls.  And, while I am not sure I would encourage the same of my husband, you simply can’t go wrong with this boot.

Filson Zip Tote, $170

Let’s admit it: Dudes need something to carry their stuff around in when traveling.  They are too old for a backpack and the briefcase doesn’t work for family travel.  This bag is the perfect solution – it will fit neatly under the seat in front of him while it oozes laid-back coolness.  No one will accuse him of either trying too hard or carrying a man-purse, because it is just so masculine.

Brackish Green Pond Pheasant Feather Bow-tie, $190

Really want to up your guy’s game for the next black-tie event?  Here’s how.  This tie is so super cool it kills me.  I bought one for my hubby last year and love it for adding a cool edge to black-tie.  Not convinced?  The hippest cat around, Bill Murray, has ordained the tie as the summit of super cool, wearing a Brackish bow-tie with his tux from the Oscars to George Clooney’s wedding.   Word.

JCrew Cashmere Half-Zip, $298

Available in a handful of woodsy hues, this guy is a wardrobe workhorse.  From high-to-low. lightweight but warm, casual but refined, wear it with jeans or under a blazer with slacks.  He can’t go wrong with one (or a half-dozen) of these in the closet.

Carry On Cocktail Kit, $19.99

I am so excited about this stocking stuffer!!  I feel so clever!  My hubby travels by plane frequently for work and his favorite drink is an Old-Fashioned.  And, most of his return flights are after the end of the workday.  Relaxing with a legit cocktail on the flight home has got to make it more tolerable.  The packing is amaze-balls for being small and tidy while cool – easy to throw in your carry-on bag and easy to use.  Because it’s also available in Moscow Mule and Gin & Tonic, you’ll probably want more than one!!!
