Low Tied . . .

Let’s face it:  even though it doesn’t really seem like the MVP of your whole pool sitch, the pool/beach shoe is a total baller in its own right.  What we are really looking for here is something completely effortless that kind of goes away. . . And, if it doesn’t?  Well . . . you’re left looking like a rookie — straight from the farm leagues, right?  I mean how hard do you have to work to get it wrong???

Actually, it’s a lot easier to get it wrong than you would think.   Here’s where my head is:  I am not wanting a challenging buckle situation.  I don’t want a clunky wooden clog.  I don’t want thick or heavy ankle straps.  No heels over an inch high or a steep pitch.  I love a slide.  A tie is acceptable, if the other criteria are met.  A platform is acceptable, if the shoe is lightweight.  I love something nude or tan.  I don’t want to spend a fortune.

So, want to know my favorite out of the whole bunch???? A flat, ankle wrap, narrow leather strap sandal like this one by Madewell.  At $69, we can all afford it.  To catch a glimpse of it on a person, check out any of the “New Arrival” dresses (especially this one!).  Tan or black?  Your choice — depends on your cover-up and suit, but you really can’t go wrong with tan.  Also, check out this one by Mango, this one by Zara (that are very similar and about the same price range), and this one by Michael Kors, which is pretty sassy.

And, really, you can’t go wrong with a fresh pair of killer flip-flops, like these from Charlotte Olympia (a bargain!), these from Tory Burch, these metallic Havanias are new this season and are killing me they are so cool, and these rockstars by J.Crew ($50 plus 25% off with code SPRINGSALE).

I am crazy for the criss-cross, too, and, again, I think Madewell takes top honors here with their Slide.  Tory Burch’s Bima criss-cross espadrille is sublime as is the classic Thais sandal by Ancient Greek Sandals (which kicked off the criss-cross craze a couple of years ago).

And perhaps the chicest sandal ever made (Jackie O in Santorini????), the thong, is out in full force this Spring.  Try Joie’s Nice sandal (dying!!), Ancient Greek’s Estia (gorge!!!), or find a million different colors and finishes in Sam Edelman’s GaliaGela, Gail and/or Gigi Thong Sandals (each style is amazeballs – I honestly can’t choose a favorite.  That price, tho!!).  And, I can’t really leave this category without mentioning the mountaintop for thong sandals — the Valentino Rockstud Wrap Thong.  Kill.  Ing.  Me.  (That one falls squarely outside of the ” don’t want to spend a fortune” restriction).

It’s worth mentioning a burgeoning section of the sandal biz — you will see a lot more of these as the summer progresses and I am guessing they’ll get their biggest play pool side — the foam bottom flatform, like these platform slides by Stella McCartney (who has been leading the flatform charge for a season or two) and these by Tory Burch.  I’ll keep my eyes out for some good knock-offs because I can totally feel this shoe.

And, forgive me, but this Brannan sandal by Tory is pretty awesome.

Oh, and . . . it’s the weekend, y’all!  Have a good one!  Here’s a little nugget to get you in the mood . . . turn it up and rock it out!
