At the end of the day, it was a pretty good carpet. The big stars did not disappoint. But . . . I kind of feel like maybe it wasn’t as heavy with major stars in major gowns. With the board spectrum that cable and Internet streaming brings to television, there are a lot (A LOT) of new people hitting the carpet that maybe haven’t hit their groove with a personal style and a stylist. But still, there were some major moments.
On to the carpet. . .
Best Dressed . . .
Claire Danes in Schiaparelli. Because she looked breathtaking, like a real movie star – the hair, the make-up, the styling.
This is red carpet like I like it: high glam. Well done.
Kerry Washington in Brandon Maxwell. Brava!! Brava!!! Love, love, love it!!! Also, I LOVE a full afro. I LOVE it — her hair literally knocks this look out of the park!
Priyanka Chopra in Jason Wu. Gorgeous! And perfectly styled with just a red lip, sleek hair with a deep side part, and a small, tight but beautiful earring.
Julia Louis Dreyfus in Carolina Herrera. She never disappoints.
Kristen Bell in Zuhair Murad. Risky but well played. This fabric plus a full skirt could have gone waaaaay wrong. But the paired-down, skin-baring bodice and the modern hair make this totally work. Love it!
Emily Ratajkowski in Zac Posen. Not a fan of Zac Posen’s fishtail shiny numbers, usually, but this looks amazing. Her make-up and hair are spot on. And, even though I didn’t actually see her in person, during her E! interview, she looked even more amazing than she does in the still shots. LOVE IT!
Taraji P. Henson in Vera Wang. The best of the yellow dresses (there were quite a few). I love it when someone has the confidence to scale back the styling and allow the dress and the body to take center stage.
Sarah Paulson in Prada. Marcia nailed it, y’all.
Portia Doubleday in Armani Privé. Love the dress. Don’t love the styling so much. Her make-up is too pale to carry the dress. Or something. I get this is the opposite of what I said about Taraji. But, it’s true. But the dress is killer.
Michelle Dockery in Oscar de la Renta. Perfection.
