My favorite purchase for Fall

As I’ve gotten older, I find myself buying less items of clothing but more “special” items. This Frame blazer goes in that category. In August, I saw this blazer but just couldn’t make myself pull the trigger. But after dreaming about it (literally) for two months I just couldn’t take it anymore and bought it. Best purchase. Why? The fit is fabulous. It is narrow at the waist but not too tight in the arms. It can be worn at work over a black shift dress or on the weekend with jeans or on a special night with leather pants and a hot pink pump. Finally, it has that “wow” factor. I’m so glad I took the plunge even if it meant some other items in my cart got put back on […]

Check. It. Out.

Psst. . . want to know the hottest ticket for Fall???  The checked blazer.  I know, right?  Doesn’t sound too sexy. Until you check out all the street style picts from Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks.  The ladies of the street are looking way hip and jaw-droppingly gorgeous in their wool, checked blazers.  You can totally rock your LSD when you take the checked blazer in a fresh new direction — pair it with a slim pair of black, cropped, boot cut denim (ones from Madewell are my all time faves – having a hard time taking them off these days), a chic tote (like the Balenciaga ones that have by now attained cult following status), and a smart poplin blouse, with maybe a . . . wait for it . . . […]

you just have to have it

as i said before this time of year is hard. you’re kind of tired of your summer clothes but the first hint of fall is coming in. but seriously who wants to buy a truly fall piece when it’s 100 degrees outside so the goal is transition pieces. the jcrew catalog came in the mail this week and this dress called my name. i love dresses, especially for work. it is one piece dressing. when you are running late but you still look together, a dress is the answer. plus you can throw a blazer over your dress or a sweater and voila you got some other looks. i used to shy away from prints; a solid dress is just easy and plus i thought if i wore a print everyone would […]

step into suede

now i’ve talked about my leather pants and if you haven’t bought a pair, well that’s your issue but i’m going to keep wearing mine for a few more months and who knows maybe even into the summer. but let’s talk about suede. i know that you might be saying;  martha? i thought we were trying to channel spring and not revert to winter (which almost all of us are still suffering through). suede does equal spring.(and btw i’m not the only one; see this october 2014 article from instyle here) the trick is to get a light weight suede in a pastel color. i have a suede jacket that meets that definition and i pull it out about the last two weeks of february and keep wearing it til mid may. […]

jbrand is not just for your bottom

i’ve been a long time fan of jbrand jeans. they fit me well and i always feel a little cool wearing them. so when i was surfing the web the other day and saw this jacket i was intrigued. jbrand on top? who would have thought it. this week we are supposed to get a cool snap and i can’t think of a better way of celebrating a tease of fall with breaking out this jacket. i’m imagining myself wearing this to work with a charcoal gray pencil skirt and them coming home and taking off the skirt and throwing on some black jeans for dinner out with friends. i always want more than one way to wear a piece, especially a piece which has a higher price point. i want to […]
