Six Fall Investment Pieces

After my post on my Vince leather pants and another conversation I had with friends recently about knee high boots I thought I would share my six Fall Investment Pieces. These are pieces that you are going to take a big gulp and pull the trigger but I promise that you will pull out these items every year without fail. But good news friends, Shopbop has its Main Event Sale and the more you spend the more you save. So if you can now is the time to invest. Use Code MainEvent16 at checkout. Leather pants. I love my Vince Leather pants. I know we shouldn’t love objects that much but seriously the best purchase I have ever made. I wear them to every Christmas party there is and on the weekends […]

Light is air

Caroline has transitioning us into fall. Check out these great posts here and here. One of my annual fall forays is going out with my daughter and finding the perfect fall jean. It is much more fun for my daughter since she has the longest legs eva but when I came across these new jeans from 7 For All Mankind I was like Whoa Nelly! Weightless, soft, and you’ll barely notice you even have them on- the all new b(air) denim collection from 7 For All Mankind. These jeans are perfect for this time of year when it is still hot as hades but you are sooo tired of shorts. These jeans don’t stick to your legs when you are sweating like a pig The jeans are created with a 8.5oz stretch denim fabric that allows the denim […]

Burnt Orange

I’ve been trying to incorporate more color into my wardrobe (see here) and with Halloween upon us orange has been my inspiration (not that Tennessee Vols orange) but a rich dark orange. I discussed orange last summer here but orange really  reminds us of fall. I’ve put together a few ideas below. Look, you can wrap this Banana Republic scarf with my new favorite Equipment blouse or this JCrew dress. Pair the Zara waist coat with these white Theory pants or back to the JCrew dress. Add these heels. Take the Equipment blouse with these Paige black jeans and add the heels or the Zara waist coat. Or simply add this Tory Burch watch for just a hint.  Take this cashmere sweater with the black Paige jeans or the Theory pants. You […]

the six pairs of jeans you must have

this past weekend my daughter and i were doing a little fall shopping. we were on the hunt for jeans so it got me thinking about the jeans i have and the ones that i need. now my list of six does not include white jeans. it’s past labor day and i know people say that we can wear them past labor day but white jeans just do not do it for me so i’m always glad to put them away. “jorts” are also not on my list nor are daisy dukes. i’m 44 people and those looks passed me a long time ago and let’s just say “jorts” never made it into my rotation (thank goodness). so my top six includes a flare, a gray (this is a great neutral) a […]

ivory row

i have a sweater (ok two sweaters) that i love. they are the most comfortable thing i’ve ever owned (besides my dual control electric blanket). here it is. sorry about the picture but you get the idea. i bought them a number of years ago and every year i pull it out because it is like my security blanket. unfortunately it is starting to look like i’ve owned it for a long time so i’ve been on the hunt for a new one. grace sun, the designer, is no longer making this sweater but in my effort to find something similar i found the designer and her new company, ivory row. grace Chang is a designer not bound by any medium. As the co-founder of community connect inc., the company launched 3 social […]

i’m saving up for this

every fall there is one piece that i swoon over but the price point is outside my budget so i have to save up. even though the wait is tortuous, the piece means that much more to me when i’ve finally saved enough money to make the purchase. i carry myself taller knowing that i worked hard to finally pull the trigger.  this season it is the rag and bone leather skirt. aline leather skirt with paneling detail and raw edge hem detail and it is soft as butter. i picture wearing it with heels and a simple blouse to work and then switching it up for night with a sequin top and a pair of booties. because it is so lightweight i can carry this piece into winter with a pair […]

i don’t have to go back to school to carry this

we were getting ready for this week’s fashion show  at saks and when i saw this bag, i just knew it had to be in the show. how fabulous is the cynnie bag and totally functional. this elizabeth and james bucket bag with a cinched drawstring top has been seen all over the streets of new york.  the zipper detail takes it to another level and the shoulder straps makes this bag totally functional. we’ve paired it with a casual look but i think you could take it out on the town with a black pants and a white bouse. plus doesn’t the shearling just make you smile. it’s like a purse with curls. so birmingham peeps come check out what we’ve done this tuesday at saks from 5 to 8. ps […]
