The One Spring Trend You Will Not See Me In…Gingham

Gingham has been everywhere I look. It is one of the Spring Trends we are being encouraged to wear.  See article here and here. Not for me. I wore gingham everyday for 12 years and the day I graduated from high school my gingham days were over. But if you didn’t wear gingham everyday growing up then I’ve got some Spring looks you need to check out. xo Martha Plus a few items you may want to try.

Springing into Sweaters

We are now 30 days from Spring Break! Whoo hoo. Here in Alabama it is already feeling like Spring. But that means that the mornings and nights are still cool. I try to buy a couple of Spring  sweaters each year because I find that my body takes a little while to acclimate to the warmer weather (kind of like still using your seat warmers in the car even when it gets warm). As you are transitioning into a new season, you want a sweater that is pale in color so you can wear it with white jeans or even a pair of shorts. I like a lightweight cashmere because I find it breathes easier. I know it is an investment but if taken care of it will last a long […]

Mixing It Up

Almost Time for Spring…but Not Quite Yet…. This time of year I get wooed by all the pretty Spring florals but I know that I’ve got a few more months of cooler weather.  I also know that if I wait til March or April to buy Spring items then all the fantastic pieces will be picked over. So what is a girl to do? I like to pair my Spring florals with my Winter staples.  For example take this Equipment blouse and pair with a floral sweater such as this one from Zara. Or take that floral blouse like this one from Banana Republic and open it up over a turtleneck in grey or black. Another idea, is to take your BLANKNYC suede moto jacket and pair with a sleeveless blouse like this […]

A little online shopping

Sorry I meant to get this out earlier but between too much tryptophan and and a little football game called the Iron Bowl (as well as my Vanderbilt Commodores!), I got a little behind. But with computer in hand I’ve got you hooked up on some of the best deals for you and the ones you need to find the best gift. Ann Taylor 50% off purchase + Free Shipping. I love the plaid tartan scarf in this camel color combination, a little twist on the usual red. Banana Republic 50% off (no exclusions). How often does this come around when Banana Republic offers a discount but there is no exclusions…uh never, so go take advantage of it. I love this Side Tie Camel Blazer with a touch of faux fur. But like […]

Just loafing around

I’m obsessed this season with metallic. Ever since I wore my metallic pleated skirt from Zara and got sooo many compliments I’ve been grabbing anything metallic.  I recently came across these metallic loafers from Banana Republic. Y’all know that I’ve been feeling their shoes this season. Check out the post here. And these loafers do not disappoint. Oh and by the way, they’re on sale…$65.00. Yes you read that right. Another plus, they are so comfortable, no break in required. Take them out of the box and go! So what to wear them with? I love these cropped jeans from DL1961. If you missed the ShopBop sale  last week then no worries just go to DL1961 and enter code DLOCT16 for 30% off. Top it off with this Cashmere stupid long sleeve […]

Pleat away

I just returned from NYC where we went to the US Open. Such a fun time! Even better, it was actually cool ( I mean long sleeves at night cool) which got me in the Fall Into Fashion mode. When not at the Open we traversed the streets of New York looking for those fall looks. Today’s look comes courtsey of the pleated skirt. I’ve been hesitant about this one since I’ve felt that pleats can make me look hippy but I’m going to change my mindset. But again it comes down to proportions. I found this silver pleated skirt at Zara that I plan on pairing with my JCrew cashmere shell in black and strappy sandals in red from Pedro Garcia. Pair the outfit with a long statement earrings like these […]

Wearing your heart on your sleeve, your back, your chest…

It’s that time of year again. Admittedly I’m not a big fan of Valentines Day. I think of it the same way as I do for every other holiday that requires a card. Just another holiday that Hallmark created so we have to go out and buy a card. But I know I can’t just let it pass (and yes I’ve bought the obligatory card) But what I really want to see is how you wear your heart. I’ve had this sweatshirt for years and I pull it out every year so I’m not totally bah humbug over the holiday which got me thinking about other ways to wear my heart. Since Valentines is on a Sunday I can go casual and pull on my sweatshirt and jeans but I also […]

Chocolate and Vanilla

Last week Caroline told us about her favorite pair of shoes, the Stan Smiths; see here. I’ve tried them and they just don’t work for me. I hate it because I really want them to. I want to be like those cool models who can rock their Stan Smiths and leather pants. Caroline looks great in her Stans.   After wearing heels all day any excuse to wear tennis shoes without breaking some fashion rule is news to my ear. I just don’t think I’m cool enough for the Stan Smiths. So where does this lead me? After fretting about it, I decided I needed to look to my shoes I wear every day to exercise and see if that could provide some inspiration. Now those who know me know that […]

Burnt Orange

I’ve been trying to incorporate more color into my wardrobe (see here) and with Halloween upon us orange has been my inspiration (not that Tennessee Vols orange) but a rich dark orange. I discussed orange last summer here but orange really  reminds us of fall. I’ve put together a few ideas below. Look, you can wrap this Banana Republic scarf with my new favorite Equipment blouse or this JCrew dress. Pair the Zara waist coat with these white Theory pants or back to the JCrew dress. Add these heels. Take the Equipment blouse with these Paige black jeans and add the heels or the Zara waist coat. Or simply add this Tory Burch watch for just a hint.  Take this cashmere sweater with the black Paige jeans or the Theory pants. You […]
