Splurge or Save

I’ve really wanted to make this a regular post for a while. Y’all know from last week’s post that I splurged on this Frame blazer which meant other items in my cart had to go back. But luckily my research has found some very good items that look like a “splurge”. All of my “save” items in the picture came from Banana Republic and in fact if you read my Frame post then you know my lesser cost leopard blazer came from Banana Republic as well. This outfit with a few tweaks can take you from day to night. During the day, carry a larger handbag with a small hoop earring and in the evening add a statement earring and may be a red lipstick. Springing into Sweaters

We are now 30 days from Spring Break! Whoo hoo. Here in Alabama it is already feeling like Spring. But that means that the mornings and nights are still cool. I try to buy a couple of Spring  sweaters each year because I find that my body takes a little while to acclimate to the warmer weather (kind of like still using your seat warmers in the car even when it gets warm). As you are transitioning into a new season, you want a sweater that is pale in color so you can wear it with white jeans or even a pair of shorts. I like a lightweight cashmere because I find it breathes easier. I know it is an investment but if taken care of it will last a long […]

Just a few more

Today is the last day of the Main Event 16 at ShopBop so if you still have a few more pennies left after Caroline and my suggestions then here are just a few more fun finds. I am in love with this Free People Bomber Jacket in Merlot. Pair it with this awesome Kiss Tee from Madeworn Rock. And what about a new pair of jeans. I’ve been coveting these Mother Ankle Fray Jeans. Finish it off with a camel/hot pink clutch from Clare V. This Vince Satin Camisole would be great underneath a blazer or a cashmere sweater for day. If you are going out then wear with a wide leg pant like these from Parker and these Madewell Octavia Tassel Sandals (which by the way would look great with the Mother […]

Decisions Decisions…

Tonight is the Linly Heflin Show and now the crucial decision, what to wear. I’m going to start with my favorite pair of leather pants. I bought these Vince leather pants a number of years ago and I promise the cost per wear has made up in ten fold what I paid for them. Yes you will gasp when that credit card statement comes in but years later they are a year round staple. So now the hard part what to wear with them. I’ve pulled three tops which I can wear tonight with my leather pants and later with a pair of jeans as I head to dinner with friends. I’ve got this one shoulder top from Ramy Brook. The color is listed as sangria but I honestly I think it […]

My sale find

It is no secret that I’m a big fan of  the Vince clothing line. In fact my daughter shamed me into not buying anything from their line for a while. It is true, my closet looks like a small Vince boutique but their clothes hold up so well and I can wear their items (particulary their blouses) at work and after work. Double bonus! So I as I was perusing the sales this weekend I came across this beauty. Admittedly I’m kind of done of shopping for summer clothes unless the item can be worn as a transition piece (which is certainly possible here in Alabama). What do you think of this Vince sleeveless Jacket? Originally priced at $795.00, it was on sale at Saks for $286.20!! I love the gray color and […]

Opposing Forces: Must v. Lust

So this time next week, I will be on Spring Break with family and friends and looking forward to a much needed get away. I’m starting my packing list which always means a few new purchases. But I know it can be an expensive time of year so here are a few ideas which can go from must to lust depending on what your budget allows. I also love mixing up high end and lower end items. It’s more fun that way. I’m a big fan of a lightweight scarf for Spring. You can wrap it around your neck or your shoulders to add a little more layer. I found this one from Banana Republic or if you can this light weight cashmere scarf from Rag and Bone is a beautiful color […]

Leather Weather

Say what? I know Caroline has done a great job this week talking about getting us ready for Spring Break and if you haven’t already  go check out her blog posts here and here. She has us covered in what to wear for our swimsuit needs. But, Pippa Middleton shows us how to rock leather for spring which is a trend I love.  Fourteen years ago I bought a lightweight tan leather jacket to celebrate my daughter’s birth (BTW a jacket is a great purchase after giving birth because goodness knows you aren’t buying leather pants after childbirth) So any event I still have that leather jacket and wear it every Spring. The point is a leather jacket is something everyone should invest in. You are still going to have those cool […]

Wearing your heart on your sleeve, your back, your chest…

It’s that time of year again. Admittedly I’m not a big fan of Valentines Day. I think of it the same way as I do for every other holiday that requires a card. Just another holiday that Hallmark created so we have to go out and buy a card. But I know I can’t just let it pass (and yes I’ve bought the obligatory card) But what I really want to see is how you wear your heart. I’ve had this sweatshirt for years and I pull it out every year so I’m not totally bah humbug over the holiday which got me thinking about other ways to wear my heart. Since Valentines is on a Sunday I can go casual and pull on my sweatshirt and jeans but I also […]

Fuzzy Wuzzy

So I love a fur vest. It is the perfect layering piece. Right now I’m wearing it with a short sleeve blouse but as the weather turns even cooler I’ll wear it with long sleeves or even a light weight sweater. It took me a while to come into the vest. I fought it for a long time because I wasn’t sure how to wear it but I’ve learned there really is not a wrong way to wear it. Be forewarned, it’s almost like you’re pregnant and everyone wants to rub your belly, everyone will want to rub on you with the fur vest because you will be so cuddly. The vest adds a rock and roll vibe to even the most conservative outfits. I also wear my fur vest with jeans […]

Pop your bottom…

I noticed the other day that my closet has a lot of gray in it. I know I can add a pop of color up top but what about a pop on the bottom? I love it especially since I also have a ton of white and black tops. Pairing a white top with a pair of fuchsia pair of pants. Well done if I do say so myself. Here are a few options that I love. You can find these pants at here, here, here and here. And for the top, just kept it simple and you can find the sweaters here and here. xo Martha Happy Weekend
